Whilst many children find vegetables challenging but will eat a wide range of fruits, for some children fruits are really tricky.
Consider an apple, for example. Are all apples equal? No, some are sharp, others sweet, some crunchy others floury, some green, others red or even multicoloured, some small, others large, some perfect, others bruised. Even one particular type of apple can vary from apple to apple.
Never knowing what you’re going to get is off-putting and leads some children to avoid fruits.
So, what can we do to help them eat fruit? Offer them in a way that provides some consistency and makes them more accessible.
A smoothie is one way to do this. And, if the smoothie is still too much of a challenge, how about pouring it into ice lolly moulds. I haven’t met many children who won’t devour an ice lolly!
