Improving your family’s wellbeing can be simple and fun

We all know we should be exercising, eating well and looking after our mental health as a family. However, we also know this is easier said than done when life is busy and there is no simple and easy way to improve overall family wellbeing.

“Where do I start?” “What should I do?” “How can I keep a consistent healthy routine?” These common concerns and barriers prevent millions of families from experiencing the wellbeing benefits they deserve and desire.

We believe time spent and memories made with family is everything. Combining both improving wellbeing and spending time together as a family increases overall health, communication, emotional support and encourages a close-knit environment.

So here are some simple activities you can do at home with the kids to improve the 3 fundamental aspects of wellbeing:

Exercise

Exercising together as a family has so many benefits, and these aren’t just physical, you’ll also experience emotional and social improvements. Here is a great simple activity to do together at home to get the blood pumping, and it’ll only take a few minutes to complete:
We call this challenge the “Funny Walk”. Take it in turns to do the following silly walks for 1 minute each; skip, take tiny baby steps, kangaroo hop, side walking with bent knees, finally do the most ridiculous walk you can think of for another 1 minute.

Nutrition

A healthy, balanced diet is an essential part of maintaining good health and can help you feel your best. When a family eats well their overall wellbeing is improved, reducing any health risks and also improving both mental and physical wellbeing, they all go hand in hand.
Eating well doesn’t have to mean complex recipes and time-consuming ideas though. Try this simple and quick challenge we call a “Fruity Start”. Make sure everyone eats one piece of fruit with their breakfast today. Simple as that!

Mental Health

Mindfulness activities can help to reduce stress and increase happiness, and not just for the parents. Children, too, can find that their day is super busy, with homework and other activities taking up much of the little free time they have. If you would like to increase the quality and quantity of your bonding time with your kids, why not take care of mental health together as a family?
Try this brilliant “Gratitude” challenge to become more appreciative and positive towards everything in your life. Sit down together and think through three things you are each grateful for. Do this individually and then you can compare and share your thoughts at the end. The trick is to picture each thing in your mind and sit with that feeling of gratitude in your body.
