I’m not eating that

It is very common for children not to like foods touching on their plate. But why?

Children need to see a new food, become familiar with it, see you eating it and explore it multiple times before they’ll recognise it as a food that is safe to eat.

Until they learn that the food is safe to eat, they may prefer to have foods presented separately and not touching. If the new food touches other foods that they know are safe to eat, in their minds this new food is contaminating the other foods, making them unsafe to eat as well.

One simple switch to the way we serve foods can make the difference between a child eating nothing and a child eating the majority of the food served.
