Sometimes children will miss a meal or only eat a small amount and, this can send us into panic mode. But it’s good to remind yourself that they aren’t going to starve if this happens.
Yes, they might need a decent, sustaining snack after school if they didn’t eat lunch. Yes, they might eat you out of house and home at breakfast if they didn’t have a bug tea. And, yes, we might need to ride the hanger waves.
But there are many reasons why children choose not to eat or decide that just a few mouthfuls is enough. We can’t force them to eat but we can support them to listen to their bodies as well as offer them enough opportunities and a good variety of foods to eat throughout the day so that we can remain calm knowing that we’ve done all we can.
