Pouring away pints

UK households waste more than 490 million pints of milk a year (around eighteen and a half pints per household) and that 90% of UK milk waste is generated in our homes*.
If milk is something that is often going to waste in your house, it’s a good idea to first think about how much you’re buying and whether you can cut back.
Also consider the size of the bottle you’re buying. If it’s going off before you have chance to drink it, would smaller bottles be a better option? You could always buy several smaller bottles and freeze a couple, defrosting as you need them and cutting down on your shopping trips.
If you’re going away and have milk left, put it in the freezer for when you get back.
Excess milk could be turned into a white sauce and then frozen to make a macaroni cheese one night. Or how about cooking up an old school rice pudding?
