Thinking about what to feed the family, shopping for the ingredients and cooking every day can very quickly and easily start to take its toll so today I wanted to share my 10 easy ways to help you save time, money and energy in the kitchen:
- Meal plan – knowing what you’re going to cook means you’re buying only what you need
- Make the most of the food you’re buying – use your leftovers, use the whole ingredient, scrub don’t peel, store food properly to prevent waste
- Make friends with your freezer – freeze anything you can’t use and think about buying frozen
- Check out what fruit and veg is in season – not only is it at its best, it’s usually cheaper too
- Use up what you’ve got – make a plan to use the ingredients in your fridge especially before you go shopping
- Think about what you can prep over time so you don’t have to do it all at dinner time
- Use a microwave, slow cooker or air-fryer as much as you can to save on energy costs
- If you’re putting the oven on, make sure you’re filling it – what else can you cook for another day?
- Serve meals family-style – anything that is left can be used for another meal or snack
- Delegate – you don’t have to do all the planning, shopping, cooking and clearing up yourself
