10 ways to rediscover the pleasure of cooking and eating

Sarah Alder Kitchen Titbits

Cooking every day can be stressful and tedious. It’s not surprising many of us lose all the joy of cooking and eating.

So, here are my top 10 ways to help you rediscover how pleasurable cooking and eating can be – relieve the stress, bring back the joy and claw your way out of that rut you’re stuck in right now.

  1. Meal planning – Meal planning means you’re not constantly stressing about what’s for dinner
  2. Try something new – Variety is the spice of life – if you’re stuck in a rut you’ll take no pleasure in eating
  3. Take a break – Grab a batch cook from the freezer, have a fridge/cupboard raid picnic tea
  4. Share the load – Get someone else to cook at least once a week and make meal planning a family affair
  5. Stock up – A thoughtfully stocked store cupboard and freezer give you options and inspiration
  6. Eat seasonally – Eat the seasons to include variety in your diet and use the produce to inspire your plans
  7. Cook for therapy – Use your time in the kitchen to relax, listen to music and have some time to yourself
  8. Cook one meal – Cook a meal that brings you joy and serve it family-style with accepted foods
  9. Cook together – Get the family involved and cook together as an activity for quality family time
  10. Have a night to yourself – Plan nights off eating as a family – feed the kids safe foods and you choose what you fancy
