Whilst the parents I work with have children ranging from 18 months to 12 years old, I typically work with parents of children aged 3 to 7. By this point they’re tearing their hair out and really can’t face any more of the battles. They’re stuck in a food rut and dread mealtimes. They have decided it’s time to change the situation and need help and support to do that.
Working with parents of older children has it’s challenges since the children are more set in their ways and can be more resistant to change, but that just makes it all the more rewarding when that change happens and families start to enjoy mealtimes together.
I especially relish working with parents of younger children because if I can show them techniques and approaches whilst their children are still young, they can take really change the course they’re heading on. They can reduce the length and the severity of a fussy eating stage and I can prevent the years of stress and heartache that comes with not tackling the issue early on.
How old are your children and how long have you been controlled by their fussy eating?
