Picture the scene.
H is getting hungry but he’s too occupied in what he’s doing to say so. He carries on playing, getting more and more hungry. Something doesn’t go his way with what he’s working on and he lashes out, screams and shouts. Hanger has set in. He needs food and he needs it now.
I offer a snack and then think it’s probably about time I prepare dinner. Dinner is ready 45 minutes later – it would have been 30 minutes but I couldn’t think what to cook and A was pestering me to help her find a toy.
I ask H&A to come to the table for dinner but H kicks up a fuss and doesn’t want to sit down. He eventually joins us at the table and just picks at the food. Angrily, I clear away and no sooner have we started playing again, H asks for a snack.
