G is for Guilt

A-Z of family mealtimes G

Mum guilt is rife. We feel guilty for working, for not spending enough time playing with our children, for not being able to buy the latest whatever they’d like, for not having a house as clean and tidy as we’d wish for.

We can also feel guilty when our children won’t eat. We can feel like it’s our fault that they’re fussy because we were fussy, because we’re not fans of cooking, because we work late and can’t always eat with our children, because we’re busy and we’re feeding them what we can pull together quickly and easily and because…

We need to stop the feeling of guilt and remember instead that no one is perfect and that we’re simply doing our best for our families.

Our children need to feel loved, supported and safe (and that includes at mealtimes) and if we’re constantly feeling guilty we’re not going to be able to show that.
